Pinehurst, NC With Mum

Good afternoon my dears,

We recently had an overseas visit from my Mum. On her first day here we went to brunch and then home décor shopping (on a quest to find a deviled egg dish). Then, the following day we went on a day-trip to the charming and idyllic village of Pinehurst, NC which I wanted to share with you today.

Pinehurst, NC is about an hour-and-a-half drive from our home and is where we celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed spending the day here for our anniversary that we put it on our calendar to come and visit every year. My favorite times to visit (if your not a golf player or golf watcher) is during the spring, when all the flowers are blooming, or in the fall, when the leaves are colorful and crunchy. Also highly recommend high tea at Lady Bedford's Tea Room, although call and reserve in advance, as its a popular place for locals to celebrate.

Happy Birthday Mum

Good morning my dears.

Today, I'd like to wish my Mum, Julie Ann, a happy birthday. Throwback to 1971, during her ballerina days. 💙

Girls Day Out

Good afternoon my dears,

I have a few more pictures from when my mum and sister came to visit. It's been almost two months, so I've enjoyed looking back and reminiscing about the time we shared together.

Monday, November 28th

One of our favorite pastimes is going "antiquing," or "picking" as some would say. While my mother and sister were here I took them to The Depot at Gibson Mill, the largest antique mall in the South.

For a hundred years, the historic plant produced fine American-made bedding until manufacturing went overseas to China and India, and the once proud plant was closed. Today, it has over 600 antique vendors, each with a varying style. Like this Chip and Jojo farmhouse style:

Or this pioneer, or prairie style:

Some vendors also sell vintage dresses, hats, gloves and purses:

Tuesday, November 29th

Every time my mum and sister come we always venture to the South Park Mall. It's fun shopping with my hubby, but you notice things from a different perspective when you shop with your mum and sister. We always like to browse Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Sur La Table, Anthropology, The Container Store, and The American Girl Doll Store.

We stopped for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, and my mum was surprised shocked at how large the slice of cheesecake was.

Wednesday, November 30th

On the morning before my mum and sister left we reminisced over breakfast before saying,

BON VOYAGE.

Happy Birthday Mummy

Today my dears, is my mum's fifty-fifth birthday. She has been in London with my little sister for the past few days.

My Mum and Uncle
My mother has been a blessing in so many lives.
My mother's story starts when my Grandad married his sweetheart, my Nana in 1954. They travelled around Europe in a motorcycle and side car for their honeymoon.

They made home in an English country village, and welcomed my uncle in 1957. Then, my Grandad who was a highly skilled detonator was offered a position in either Canada or South Africa. They chose the latter.

They made a new home in South Africa, and welcomed my mother in 1961. Then moved to Rhodesia where my mum attended private boarding schools. After school, my mom went on to work in finance for over eighteen years.

My mother met my dad when she was fourteen, and he was seventeen through mutual friends. They were friends for ten years when my dad married his sweetheart, my mum. They welcomed me in 1986, and my sister in 1990.

In 1994, my mother who was concerned for our safety after several robberies on our twenty-two acre farm in the middle of nowhere and political unrest, moved us girls to an English country village. She created an idyllic childhood. My mom went on to work in healthcare and create a home sweet home for the last twenty-two years.

Her parents passed in 2009, and my dad in 2013. Since then we have formed a new family, my mum, sister, hubby and me. We've been praying for baby blessings, which would make our family complete.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday Mum.
