IDMU Thesis

Thesis Spring 2010

This last Thursday, May 20th at 7pm I presented my thesis, it has been a whirlwind year, which at times felt like it would never end. However, I finished on time, and once I get the pictures of my completed boards, I will post. Below are my a few of my final drawings/renderings, and without the scale figures, as I added those as a layer, without saving as a picture on a digital program.
Tea Strainers, brought my spatial design context together, intermingling circles, which if overlaid, brought a community sense of 'gathering'.

The Camellia Lounge, named after the tea plant. Is located in the current Wizer's building on 1st and A Avenue in downtown Lake Oswego.

The Demonstration kitchen, had two different tone cabinetry, for a more informal gesture.

The Sample lounge, changes it's teas seasonally.

Another informal lounge, stay awhile and gather.

The Camellia Lounge, overlooking the summer patio, and the direct day lighting.

The 'pod's' created for more privacy while dining.

The stained glass windows, overlooking the entryway, peeks through to the informal and sample lounges.

Tired, who has time to sleep?

It's so late, undeniably a late 1:29pm. My roomie is out for the night and I am about to head to bed. I don't know if it's a 'lil' part that goes with thesis but most mornings I wake up tired already. I spoke with a friend over lunch last week and without avail she declared the same.

'That's even if you make it to bed'. This Thursday I went to bed at 8:00am, yes you read it right! I spent the whole evening working on my project and I was pleased with my outcome. Miss Milly, my pretty cat, and best friend helped me stay awake and at times sat right next to me. We eventually got to sleep at 8:00am and awoke back up at 8:33am and got ready and to class, via a coffee stop first OF COURSE! And surprisingly I was alert all day, did a presentation and a meeting but by 5pm...I fell asleep. Mission Accomplished!

Today, refreshed I took the day to troubleshoot my internet connection problems, and spent the better half of this afternoon on the phone with Mr. Comcast, I sorta got things back to the way I want then to be, but we'll see if those countless hours of figuring out firewalls and network cables payed off!

Feng Shui in the bedroom

How blissful would it be to have a beautiful bedroom like the one here from house to home I like the calming effects. Amongst popular blogs and helpful sites I found some top Feng Shui tips and aim to give them a go, perhaps it would aid better sleep, we'll see.

Top Tips:

  1. Remove your TV, any electrical devices (well besides your alarm clock) and any exercise equipment.

  2. Open your windows daily and allow fresh air to roam the room, another hint was not to use indoor plants in the bedroom, however fresh cut flowers from your garden, or if your lucky 'from someone special' will give your bedroom a blossoming aroma.

  3. Invest in good lighting. You need lower wattage lamps next to your bedside, and more task lights in your closet and near any shelving.

  4. Using color psychology and Feng Shui colors will give you more energy, aim for 'skin tones' from pale to darker.

  5. Decorate with art that represents you.

  6. Position your bed away from your door and balance it with nightstands. You can represent each persons personality with two different nightstands, such as oval and square. Also consider good quality sheets made of natural fibers.

  7. Close all doors, yes including your closet draws.
