My Week!

Wow, what a week. I have now been back in town for over a week and I already feel exhausted. My trip back was so long, including an overnight layover in Schipol, Amsterdam for New Years Eve.

This week I have been getting back into the swing of things, although by the end of the week I was suffering sinus/flu like symptoms and found classes exhausting me out. So much so I spent this past Saturday, recuperating at home, watching the likes of Lifetime television.

Fabulous I know! Today I decided cleaning up and errands were in order, at my own dilly-dally pace, I quickly tidied up my humble abode then headed off to Rite Aid. An expensive shop it became, almost $40! I was taken aback by brown/black tights and the reduced prices in toiletries made me stock up!

New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Over the years I have made resolutions, some stuck, others didn’t. In 2004 I decided to write down in a diary everything that I spent for the year, and I did! At the end of the year I found out, exactly how much I cost.

This year, my resolution is confidence, on the inside and outside, as I believe confidence leads to better prospects in careers, friendships and relationships. Although I may at times appear confident to the outside world, inside I’m crying. I’ve become good at hiding my inner emotions, and I resolve to sift through those emotions so I can have a better self confidence.

Each week I aim to focus on one new area according to the book Angel Healing, it is a concept that could enrich my life. It is an alternative therapy that involves communication with angels. I know it may seem a hoax, but why not give it a try? I bought this book several years ago at a yard sale for a whole 20 cents, and it’s been laying in my closet. This Christmas break, while I was in Europe I needed a few light books to read and I pulled out my favorite first The Sweet Life by William Sinunu and then that good ole bargain book from the yard sale. As I read each page, I realized I could enrich my life, and be more confident by not only confiding in my mother, but also my guardian angel.
We’ll see.

Want To Be A Housewife?

One of my favorite eras is the 1950’s. I love the cards you can now get where the word ‘housewife’ seems vintage. I adore the decade, the morals and the traditional roles. Although I believe women have the right, the right to go to college and have a career, I also believe we should have the choice if we wish to stay at home and take care of our flourishing families.

Gone are the days where women would awake their children gently, walk them to school, return home and launder the sheets, get down on your hands and knees to clean the floors and meet their neighbors for a coffee break, collect their children, and have them bathed and reading while awaiting dad’s home from work. Then the family would eat a home cooked meal in the dining room.
Nowadays we are so tired, that getting children ready is a rush as you have to get ready for work yourself. We work all day long, arrive home after our children to a babysitter and have little time to prepare dinner so what do we do, suggest takeout? Or perhaps just go out to eat?

I have always enjoyed chatting with my grandmother, she is a very wise woman and she was married for many years. She unlike many housewives of her time wanted to work, my grandpa always said, “As long as your home before the children”. So she spoke to respective companies, asking for part time work, she did and for many years worked mornings only. She said it was ideal, she could contribute to the household and have time to spend with her family.

My dream as an interior design student is to eventually have my own business. I would like to have a studio from home and work on smaller residential and custom home rebuilding projects. My biggest dream is to have a large family, a comfortable home and to be around to hear my children laugh. If it means I don’t make as much money, I’m fine with that! The richest people are those with rich memories and a rich love.

Rediscoving A Hobby

For many years I kept a sketchbook filled with torn out pages from my favorite glossy magazines, sharing my passions for family, food, dream homes and inspirational women.

I usually group images on a two page spread, and they co-ordinate. It is my inspiration, filled with dream homes with enormous kitchens, adorable pooches and al fresco dining. So tonight after a year break on working at my sketchbook I completed more pages. I watched HGTV, sipped on lemon tea and basked in the time I had to myself.

I would encourage anyone whom reads this, to maybe appreciate an old hobby. Life sometimes gets in the way, and when we go through life changes, it is those hobbies which give us fulfillment and who could be better company than you.
